About Marc Curtis
Marc Curtis began his career with a deep commitment to serving others, first as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army, where he deployed to Iraq during the first Gulf War. Upon returning, Marc was stationed at Fort Stewart, where he worked as a K-9 handler until his honorable discharge in 1994.
After his time in the Army, Marc pursued higher education, earning his degree from Michigan State University and later from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He then began his legal career with the Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office, where he quickly advanced to Senior Assistant Prosecutor. During his time at the Prosecutor’s Office, Marc was assigned to working with the West Michigan Enforcement Team (WMET), a regional law enforcement task force focused on tackling drug trafficking and organized crime in West Michigan. As part of this specialized team, Marc worked alongside local law enforcement officers to investigate and prosecute serious criminal cases, gaining invaluable experience handling complex cases that often involved multi-agency coordination and significant legal strategy.
A Supporter of Law Enforcement
Marc’s strong ties to the law enforcement community were further solidified when he joined his local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge in 2002. As an active participant in the Lodge, Marc served as a trustee for ten years. Marc’s leadership continued to grow, and he was eventually elected Vice President for 3 consecutive years and now serves as 2nd Vice President along with his role as Michigan FOP District 5 Trustee.
Protecting the Rights of Law Enforcement Officers
Now as a Criminal Defense Trial Attorney, Marc’s commitment to protecting the rights of law enforcement officers is evident in his tireless efforts on their behalf. He is not afraid to take on high-profile cases or to challenge command staff or politicians when necessary. Marc’s willingness to stand up for all law enforcement has earned him a reputation as a tenacious advocate for law enforcement rights.
In 2012, Marc’s swift action in the face of a critical incident highlighted his unwavering dedication to law enforcement. When a Muskegon County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in an inmate death during a late-night engagement, Marc was contacted for assistance when deputies were detained and denied the right to speak with an attorney. Marc immediately responded to the scene, informed law enforcement agencies of the deputies’ rights, and ensured they were not forced to make statements without legal representation.
Despite being ordered to leave the jail, Marc’s intervention ensured the deputies were released without further questioning and that their rights were upheld. This incident marked the beginning of what would become a pattern of Marc’s commitment to defending law enforcement during critical incidents. Since 2012, Marc has repeatedly responded to the scene of high-stakes situations to provide immediate legal counsel and representation for officers involved in critical incidents.
