Ofc. Matthew Mistretta, Former Hartford Police
I would like to express my sincere gratitude and endorsement for Mr. Marc Curtis. In August of 2020 I had made a stop on a vehicle that I was informed had committed a homicide approximately 1.1 miles from the scene of the crime. The aftermath of that event led me to being charged by the Michigan Attorney General with (1) felony count of Misconduct in office and (2) counts of Assault and Battery.
Marc was my third and last lawyer to have my case over a 2 year period ending on April 19th 2023. Marc was a master of the court room. Calm, assured, steadfast and honest, Marc was a pillar that I was able to lean on as a former police officer that was on trial for doing my job. Marc, came onto the case after the preliminary exam and was able to identify key mistakes that my former lawyers were unable to catch. Marc capitalized on them to solidify the case into a not guilty verdict on all counts. All in under a year to do so. I cannot impose on you what that means, it’s monumental.
Marc is and shall continue to be a fantastic lawyer and I will stand by him today and for whatever he faces in the future as I did when I was offered one last plea deal when the Jury trial was on day 2. Marc stated to me that the Attorney General’s office was willing to offer me a reduced charge by dropping the misdemeanor charges against me but keep the felony. I asked Marc if he thinks we could win. Straight faced without a shadow of a doubt Marc stated “Yes”. His exuded confidence gave me the willingness to deny the plea deal. The next day, April 19th 2023, I walked away a free man, not guilty on all counts.
If anyone were to question Marc and his capabilities, I have no doubt if you were to look at my story and the timeframe in which it happened in the U.S. during the catastrophe of the War on Police, that I was up against the Attorney General of the State of Michigan’s Office, that Marc is an exceptionally gifted individual with the knowledge and skill set to implement it in any situation.
