Dep. Jeff Patterson, Muskegon County Sheriff
I am pleased to recommend Marc Curtis and his team. I had never needed any legal assistance prior to being charged with a very serious felony by a lady with a mental condition in state government. When that moment came, Marc and his team were there and ripe for the task.
Marc is very focused and aggressive. From the get go, Marc was digging for clarity from his clients. He did not come across as judgmental. Rather, he was digging for all the answers and possible hangups. He was able to put out fires before they ever existed by having all the information for navigating the case.
Marc did not let his aggression and focus get in the way of his teamwork. Each member of the team was equally beneficial. Marc took the time to consider everyone’s input and stance. It takes a strong person (making a strong team) to listen to differing strategies and consider them. At no point did I hear or feel as if there was disagreement or friction.
Marc and his team took the time to get to know us. They became personal with each. They were empathetic to our situation. We were new to being on the other side of the courtroom. Marc’s team knew this and supported us. They took the fear out of our eyes and the pits out of our stomachs. Marc’s team gave us the confidence we needed to defend ourselves.
Communication is important in life, in general. In this situation, it is crucial. Marc’s team took the time to listen to our thoughts and ideas. Never did I feel anything we had to say was not important. From beginning to end, every meeting we had we were comfortable addressing what we needed to.
Every step of the way, we were made privy to what was going to happen. They were thorough (and correct) in what was to be expected. We were always aware. Anytime we had a question, Marc’s team would answer our call.
The team accurately gauged their clients. From anxious, to furious, to overwhelmed they were able to explain items to each of us that answered all of our questions. That was soothing, allowing us to get our thoughts and facts straight. The team was very honest and upfront. No sugarcoating BS. When something wasn’t positive in our case, they said it. I remember the line “At the end of the case, I’m going home to have a steak dinner”. That might sound mean or callous. But it’s the honesty I need. He is not all gung ho. He’s not at the casino playing with house money!
I still see Marc from time to time. Marc still takes the time to have a brief word with me. The comfort of having a friend stand with you in a bad situation is weird. You don’t want to be in it. But you’re damn glad he was there with you. I still feel incredibly indebted to him and his team.
Sincerely,
Jimmy Fuag
